Meet Veera

Veera was only 20 days old when someone decided that since she was a super cute street puppy that they would adopt her.  This meant Veera got separated from her siblings and her mother who still were living on the streets of Bangalore. Unfortunately, less then three months later, her so-called adopter dumped her back on the streets. She was thin, weak and scared of the roads. Within a few days, Veera got hit by a car but was very lucky as she only sustained minor injuries. Furthermore, she was also getting attacked by local packs of dogs. She lived on the streets for a couple more weeks and progressively got sicker.

Just before Diwali 2018, she looked so sick and weak that her rescuer took her to the vet. The vet diagnosed her with severe anemia and she had an infection. She was put on antibiotics and was taken home by her rescuer to be fostered. Veera’s rescuer did her best to try to find Veera a loving home in India but unfortunately people in India have a negative stigma towards street dogs. This meant that no one wanted to adopt her. Veera’s rescuer was not sure how to find Veera a forever home. She was worried that she was going to have to send Veera back to living on the streets.

Finally, Veera and her rescuer received amazing news that there was a family that wanted to adopt her in Tacoma Washington. Not only did they want to adopt Veera but one of the other rescue dogs, Lara. Delhi the Street Dog Foundation raised the funds for their flight to their forever family. A flight volunteer agreed to help transport the dogs from Bangalore to the Seattle Airport.

Veera and Lara arrived to Seattle on January 30th 2019. Their new family was waiting to pick them up at the airport. They now have a big back yard and a big brother.
