Meet Scout

During the early months of 2018, a hopeful pup was born to the streets of India close to a University. This doesn’t always have to be a dismal situation considering the growing compassion and progressive thinking of the youth of the 21st century. The pup was befriended and fed by locals, and eventually named “Scout” by those who would come to call themselves her rescuer.

One day while out on a “scouting mission”, one of her favorite pastimes which also obviously gained her a name, it was learned that Scout was encountered by a few adolescent men who proceeded to beat her with a stick until her back legs were rendered useless. Her sisters “Socks” and “Lips” also in this video, remained unharmed.

Scout, less than two months old, spent nine days dragging around in the streets before her rescuers came to her aid where she was quickly brought into foster care, fit with a wheelchair and earned a new name: Scout on Wheels.

As her injuries continued to heal, the fractures and broken bones set in such a way which would eventually cause Scout to break her femur as she was, ironically, being transported to a vet visit. It wasn’t long after this time that, due to circumstances and stress, Scout began to chew off her own paws.

This is when her rescuers from the United States stepped in and raised funds to have Scout shifted to a medical boarding in India, in addition to paying for her hind leg amputation surgeries to avoid any further infection, which had reached her bone, all the while searching for a way to get her to the United States.

Given the dire situation, it didn’t take long to find a flight volunteer to open their heart to the journey, and it was at this time that this mission partnered up with Delhi the Street Dog Foundation who jumped right on board, whom both ensured and fascilitated safe passage to the United States.

After doing well in both her medical boarding in India and for the first week at her Wisconsin foster home, we were certain that Scout’s darkest times were behind her. During this time, her temporary fosters decided that she was too much to handle and agreed that finding other arrangements would not only be best for Scout, but for their family as well.

Then, just days before the new year, and only two weeks before Scout was set to be picked up by her new foster and potential adopter, just like her feet, she began to chew on her own tail until it was haphazardly disconnected, leaving bone and tendon exposed. “Team Scout” pooled their resources and went forward with a surgery to properly amputate the exposed tail.

On January 12th Scout was picked up from Wisconsin by a pet transport company and arrived in Texas 2 days later where she has been thriving with her extremely dedicated foster mom Jen and her foster brothers and sisters! Because of the love and support from people like you, Scout’s story spread, and in March of 2019, Scout is set to travel to her FOREVER home in British Columbia with a beautiful and loving family, AND a Desi older brother named Indy!

We are happy to report that a change of scenery and surroundings has stopped any and all chewing that Scout has performed on herself. Life is looking up for Scout and we are so excited to keep you posted on all of her new adventures!
