Meet Hazel

Hazel in one point in her life had a home in India. We don’t know what exactly happened to her but one day she was hit by a car. Her family no longer wanted her after her accident and brought her to a government run shelter in India.

She was so distraught that during her time at the shelter she chewed off her on leg leaving her bone exposed. She had to compete with healthier dogs for food. She become extremely malnourished and very skinny.

Peedu’s People, a rescue group in India, came to Hazel’s rescue and saved her from her terrible living conditions. They immediately got her leg amputated as the bone on her leg was still exposed. They gave her love and lost and lots of food. Finally, Hazel was healthy again but now needed to find a family to call her own. Unfortunately, finding adopters in India is already scarce for street dogs. Also, Hazel had a lot of health problems and needed a lot of medical attention. Peedu’s People knew that they would never be able to find a home for her in India.

That is when they reached out to our Foundation to see if we could help. We immediately contacted out partner rescue, Sunny Skies Animal Rescue, who of course could not say no to helping Hazel. Hazel arrived to the USA on February 21st 2019. Poor Hazel was extremely stressed and overwhelmed from her journey. But, we new she just needed time and that she would adjust her new environment.

In just a few weeks, Hazel has already turned into a new dog. She loves being around people and receiving love. We know that Hazel still has a long journey a head of her but we will be by her side until we can find her a loving home.
